Types of Available VM

Virtual Hardware

Unless you have a very strong business case, VMs are provided with 2 vcores, 8 GB of RAM and 50 GB of local storage.

As the current VM platform is meant to provide you with persistent online presence (and not to run any compute intensive workload), there is a hard cap of 4 vcores, 16 GB and 100 GB of local storage that we won’t exceed.

Operating Systems

Details of available operating systems are given below.

Linux

We only offer a standard Ubuntu 24.04 LTS image at the moment.

Microsoft Windows

Windows image are not actually hosted on the RVMI platform but on the Business VM Platform for licensing reasons. All Windows-related requests will be forwarded to the Campus Infrastructure team and handled by them. You will be asked to cover the licensing costs and you need to fill out an IGRR before requesting a Windows VM.

Apple OS-X

OS-X is not available on the service because of licence restrictions.
