Researchers&#8217; Isilon shares are made available across the CSF cluster, i.e., to all compute nodes as well as the login node.<\/p>\n<h2>How do I acquire an Isilon share for the CSF?<\/h2>\n<p>In the usual way, via the <a href=\"https:\/\/ri.itservices.manchester.ac.uk\/rds\/apply\">Research Data Storage service request form<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>N.B. When filling in the form, ensure you make it clear that your share is to be used primarily on the CSF. Assuming your application is successful, you will be allocated a <a href=\"\/rds\/user-faq\/types-of-available-storage\">NFS share, rather than a CIFS share<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Can I mount my CSF NFS share on my desktop\/laptop machine?<\/h2>\n<p>Not <em>directly<\/em> &#8211; NFS shares are not <em>directly<\/em> mountable on user desktops or laptops. They are only accessible from the CSF, iCSF and similar IT Services-run systems.<\/p>\n<p>However, NFS shares can be accessed on users&#8217; desktops <em>indirectly<\/em> via a dedicated host named <em>rds-ssh<\/em> using SSH, SFTP and\/or SSHFS programs. For more information about this, please see the <a href=\"\/rds\/the-rds-ssh-service\/\">RDS-SSH page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Can I mount my CIFS\/SMB desktop\/laptop-visible storage on the CSF?<\/h2>\n<p>No, this is not possible.<\/p>\n<p>However, CIFS\/SMB shares (your desktop\/laptop storage) and NFS shares (your CSF homedir and addition RDS areas) can both be accessed on a dedicated host named <em>rds-ssh<\/em> using SSH, SFTP and\/or SSHFS programs.
